In the Japanese audio, Seras’s “ Iya da! ” (“I don’t want to!”) is childlike and desperate. The French subtitle reads “ Je ne veux pas! ” (simple, direct, final). The gap between the voice’s panic and the subtitle’s starkness creates a Brechtian alienation: you understand her terror, yet you see the cold logic of her fate. A French dub would smooth this into a single performance.
