The short link redirects to a page that claims “You must send a text to +44 [some number] to unlock a hot WhatsApp group.” The user, excited by the promise of exclusive content, sends an SMS to that UK number. Unbeknownst to them, this is a premium-rate service charging £10–£30 per message.
