White Dwarf 458 Pdf Hot ^hot^

Hot white dwarfs with metal lines are rare because their high radiation pressure should levitate heavy elements. WD 458’s silicon and iron must have been accreted (the diffusion timescale). This implies active planetary debris, possibly an evaporating asteroid or cometary cloud. The 2021 PDF provided the first evidence of such rapid accretion around a star hotter than 45,000 K.
