The proliferation of online piracy and illicit content distribution has become a pressing concern in the digital age. This study explores the phenomenon of unauthorized Tamil dubbed movie downloads, specifically focusing on "The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil" on Tamilyogi. Through a mixed-methods approach, we investigate the socio-technical factors facilitating illicit content distribution, user motivations, and the impact on the entertainment industry. Our findings shed light on the complex interplay between technological affordances, social norms, and economic factors driving online piracy.
This study employed a mixed-methods approach, combining both qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis methods. Online surveys were administered to 300 participants who had downloaded "The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil" from Tamilyogi, while in-depth interviews were conducted with 20 frequent users.
