The company's name is derived from the phrase "QuinetiQ," which is a play on the word "inquisitive," reflecting the company's focus on innovative and cutting-edge research. Initially, QinetiQ was a wholly government-owned company, but in 2006, it was privatized through a sale to a consortium of investors, including The Carlyle Group and Trireme International.
