The traditional Windows Mobile interface, which mirrored the desktop Windows experience with small icons and a Start menu designed for a stylus, felt increasingly dated. Windows Mobile 6.5 was an interim update—often called a "stop-gap" measure—designed to modernize the user experience while Microsoft developed the completely reimagined Windows Phone 7.
